Costumes are such an exciting part of theatre – they help tell the story, they help actors get into character, and they immediately tell the audience something about what’s going on. In this introductory class, students will learn the basic elements of costume design, including character/script analysis, research, visual design ideas and techniques, as well as both hand and machine sewing skills related to the basics of creating and altering clothes.
Students will develop their ability to think about clothing as a key component of story-telling, expand their vocabulary for discussing the visual world, and use collaborative skills to complete projects for hypothetical theatre shows.
This is a must-take class for the well-rounded theatre student!
