Studio Discovery

June 3rd – 7th

Ages 3 – K

July 8th – 12th

Ages 3 – K

For our youngest students (ages 3 – K), Studio Discovery provides week long, 1/2 day programs (9-12N) that are filed with fun activities including theatre, crafts, snack and outdoor time (weather permitting). The emphasis is on learning, engagement and social development through fun and playful exploration of a weekly theme. The week ends with an informal Shareformance in a supportive, age-appropriate space where friends and family can celebrate the campers’ achievements.

Studio Discovery Audition Information

For Studio Discovery there are no auditions and no previous experience needed. There are not “roles” in the traditional sense of the word in these camps. Group storytelling and collective characters are effective and fun for this age. Everyone gets to play together!

Studio 1

Studios 1,2,3,4 and Ensemble programs start the day with a morning conversation around a positive, enriching value or theme for the day, such as compassion. leadership and communication. There is also wrap up time at the end of the day, to conclude the day with reflection on the day’s value or theme.

In Studio 1, grades 1 – 3 take on the challenge of a fully staged 30-minute musical!  These are two-week programs, 9 am – 1:30 pm. The first week includes classes in acting, singing and dance, and rehearsal time. In the second week, the campers move into a tech week, where they continue to rehearse and the elements of lights, sound, costumes, set, and projections are added. Every day brings opportunities for fun, learning and new friends! The students bring a lunch, and outdoor play time is built into the schedule (weather permitting). These camps culminate in two fully-staged performances where friends, family and community members can support and celebrate the children’s achievement!

Studio 1 Audition Information

Studio 1 – The first day includes “Share and Learn” time where the campers learn material and share it back. In this supportive, non-competitive format, the teaching artists assess the best match for roles to campers. No previous experience needed.

Studio 2

In Studio 2, students embark on a journey of putting on a fully-staged 60 minute musical. These programs are two weeks long, and run from 9 am- 4 pm, including a lunch time (campers bring a lunch). These are action-packed and challenging weeks, fully of learning, fun and friends! The first week has classes in acting, music and dance, along with lots of rehearsal time. The second week moves into tech, where the technical elements of lights, sound, set, costumes, props, and projections are added. These programs end with two, fully-staged performances!

STUDIO 2, 3 and ENSEMBLE Audition Information

There are auditions prior to the start of the program, however, upon enrollment, every student has a place in the cast (or technical team). The auditions are about the teaching artists finding the best match of roles to students. These auditions are 45 minutes long in small groups, have music, dance, and acting sections, and are structured to provide a supportive atmosphere where students are encouraged to be brave and show the team engagement, willingness to learn, and a positive, collaborative spirit. No previous experience needed.

Studio Ensemble

July 22nd – August 2nd

Grades 3rd – 8th

Conservatory

(Studio 4)

June 3rd – 14th

Grades 9th – 12th

Advanced – Audition Only

Auditions: May 3 & 4 (Note: Students in Wizard of Oz will need to audition May 4)

STUDIO 4 – Grades 9 -12 (entry by audition only)

In this two-week advanced level conservatory program, students are challenged with more difficult materials, and the schedule is similar to a professional theatre rehearsal process. Entry is through audition only. The days are 9-4, and all students are in rehearsal the full time, except for their lunch break (students bring a lunch). A commitment to advanced acting, dance and music work is expected. The second week is the tech week, when the technical elements, such as lights, sound, set and costumes are added. The conservatory performs two fully produced performances at the end of the second week.

STUDIO 4 Audition Information

Studio 4 is an advanced level, conservatory program and students audition to get in. The auditions are modeled after professional auditions with acting, music and dance sections. This may include cold reading sides, monologues, learning a short dance routine and sharing it back, singing music previously prepared (usually 16 – 32 bars), and/or singing provided music. What will be required various by show, and will be given to students prior to auditions so they can prepare. Students are usually requested to stay for the entirety of the audition time.

Not all students who audition will be accepted into this program. Previous fully staged production theatre experience required.

Summer Shows & Camps

Summer Program Scholarship and Financial Aid Applications are due by March 1st by 10:00pm. Please note our policy has changed. In order to be considered for any financial aid award, you must register for the desired program and select financial aid under payment options. Once you complete registration, please fill out the financial aid application form HERE no later than 10:00pm March 1st for consideration. All applications will be reviewed and awards given by March 15.
