Interview with a producer- Kalond Irlanda
Part of a series in which we interview our teachers and staff to learn more about them and get their insights into the world of performance. This week’s interview is with Kalond Irlanda, PAA’s producer. Kalond also teaches acting classes and directed “101 Dalmatians” this past summer.
How long have you been working with PAA?
KI: 6 months
How many years have you been working in the performing arts?
KI: Working-wise, 2 years
What is your performance background?
KI: I have performed in 33 shows, directed/assistant directed 4 shows, did tech for 1 show, participated in band for 5 years, orchestra for 1, chamber choir and vocal jazz for 4 years, and I have taken a beginners course in Jazz and Tap Dance. All of this was within the last 9 years.
What is your favorite role or production youโve been involved in?
KI: My favorite role I have played was probably Bobby Strong in Urinetown: The Musical. My favorite productions Iโve been involved with are Next to Normal and The Mikado.
What is your top piece of advice for aspiring performers?
KI: My advice to aspiring performers is to keep auditioning; you will get more โnoโs than โyesโs but that does not mean you are not good. Once you are working in a show, my advice is to rehearse outside of rehearsal.
What do you think makes PAA special or unique?
KI: What makes PAA unique is the work on improving the individual along with working on the performerโs skills.
What is your most embarrassing performing arts moment?
KI: My most embarrassing moment was when I almost missed an entire scene in a show.

KI: I have a lot of favorite quotes, one of them is:
