The Must-See Musical List

Thankfully, you don’t have to be a musical theatre expert to experience the magic of a musical theatre production.
Whether on screen or on stage, musical theatre has the power to transform audiences through soaring ballads, captivating choreography, and unforgettable on-stage emotion.
We challenged our PAA Artistic Team to name ONE musical production every aspiring artist should see and why.
Narrowing it down to just one musical was not an easy task, but our Artistic Team rose to the occasion.
You don’t have to be an aspiring performer to enjoy these productions. Gather family and friends, press play or grab tickets, and experience the magic together.
Note: Be sure to research each musical in advance to ensure it’s age-appropriate for your family.
Here are the Artistic Team’s picks, in no particular order.
🎭 Les Misérables
It is one of the theatre classics and is a part of “theatre culture.” The music is breathtaking, and the story has emotional depth, exploring revolution and the heroism of the “everyday man.” This production relies on the cast to tell the story through heavy ensemble work- thus demonstrating the importance of everyone being a part of the team! – Marisa VerSteegh – PAA Teaching Artists
🎭 West Side Story
For its epic storytelling, iconic music, and cultural impact. – Katie Reid – PAA Resident Director
🎭 A Chorus Line
It is the ultimate ensemble piece, giving the audience a glimpse into the lives of each of the dancers. It is authentic, heartbreaking, and universal. Everyone can relate to the themes of passion, rejection, and vulnerability. You don’t have to be a theatre kid to be moved by A Chorus Line, but every theatre kid will see themselves in the characters on the stage. – Melanie Kirkpatrick- Artistic Director
Especially the one that you’re in. Beyond that, everyone should see Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz at least once in their life! – Christopher Lengerich – Resident Director
