  • PAA is seeking experienced, passionate theatre professionals who love to work with students and are excited to work in non-traditional theatrical spaces.
  • Candidates must have a willingness to learn, be highly organized, self-motivated, and committed to working as part of larger teams. Programs are designed for ages 3 - grade 12 with some adult classes too.
  • PAA's programs and classes encompass a wide variety of experience levels.  With the exception of the advanced level, musical theatre programs have placement auditions that usually occur at least 4 weeks prior. More information on each program is located throughout the website.
  • PAA operates as an independent 501 (C) 3 nonprofit organization located at 8817 South Broadway in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
  • PAA hires 50+ contractors annually on a rolling basis and will only respond to selected applications.
  • Due to the nature of PAA's activities, all hired employees and contractors are background checked every 1-3 years.

FALL 2026 Teaching Artist

Join The Performing Arts Academy's FALL 2026 Teaching Artist Team!

The Performing Arts Academy (PAA) is now hiring engaging and enthusiastic educators to teach our Fall Classes for youth ages 3.5 -18.

Spend the fall sharing your artistry - in acting, voice, or dance - while helping students build confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of theatre.

Our Fall Semester includes:

  • 10-week classes: August 17 – October 22
  • 6-week classes: August 22 – September 26

Class times are:

  • Monday–Thursday: 4:15 PM and 5:10 PM
  • Saturdays: 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM

Each class meets weekly for 55 minutes. Teaching Artists are responsible for developing their own weekly curriculum based on the provided class theme and description.

We're seeking Teaching Artists with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Teaching Youth
  • Musical theatre
  • Acting and improv
  • Dance and movement
  • Vocal performance and ensemble work
  • Creative storytelling  
  • Makeup Artists
  • Costume Designers

Pay rates starting for 6 weeks at $240 and 10 weeks at $400

Technical Director
The Performing Arts Academy is seeking an experienced theatrical Technical Director.

PAA is a leading non-profit children's theater group in the South Denver region, producing over 30 musicals and plays annually, along with a variety of performing arts classes, workshops, and outreach programs. The Technical Director will work closely with the Production Manager to successfully execute each production to PAA's high standards of quality and excellence. Qualified candidates must have a strong working knowledge of multiple production positions, including scenic construction and painting, props fabrication, theatrical lighting, and sound engineering basics. Working individually at times, candidates must be self-motivating, detail-oriented, and capable of meeting production deadlines. The TD will also be responsible for leading over hire teams and contracted production technicians for show load-ins and strikes, while also assisting in an operator capacity during technical rehearsals and performances. The right candidate remains calm under pressure and comes up with creative solutions. They do not simply complete each job to a minimum degree, but are able to anticipate where improvements can be made and are willing to go above and beyond to create unique theatrical experiences for every production.

Qualified candidates:

  • Should have a bachelor's degree in technical theater, or a minimum of 3 years' experience as a theatrical Technical Director, or comparable experience
  • Have experience leading or managing teams in a fast-paced production environment
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience as a scenic carpenter with a strong understanding of scenic building techniques, tools, and safety requirements
  • Have a strong understanding of theatrical lighting, including hanging, focusing, and programming
  • Have a basic understanding of theatrical audio, including cable identification and routing, microphones, and mixer programming
  • Have experience with common theatrical programs and equipment, including ETC, Qlab, digital sound mixers, wireless microphones and networking technologies, projection mapping, and applications
  • Have the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Have the ability to lift over 50 lbs
  • Must be willing to work daytime and occasional evening and/or weekend hours, as each production may require
  • Must work responsibly and professionally around children

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead carpenter on all PAA productions; builds all scenic elements based on design elements provided
  • Props fabrication and pulls for productions
  • Team lead on production load-ins and strikes
  • Team lead during technical rehearsals and performances; while also participating as an operator/technician on productions
  • Maintains inventory and cleanliness of PAA storage and workspaces
  • Maintains functionality of PAA classroom tech equipment
  • Maintains inventory of PAA technical equipment
  • Assists with technical elements for PAA community and fundraising events
  • Attends production meetings and staff meetings as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
All candidates must have reliable transportation and pass a background check. This is a full-time salaried staff position; time commitment per month may vary based on seasonal workload. The Performing Arts Academy (PAA) is hiring theatre directors for Summer 2026 musical theatre intensives. PAA is a nonprofit organization devoted to community building, character development, and excellence in youth performing arts education.

About the Program
PAA produces more than 15 fully staged productions each summer for students ages 5-21. Intensives are one or two weeks long and require directors who can guide a high-energy, student-centered rehearsal process.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the artistic leader for the production, overseeing vision, staging, and overall educational experience.

  • Direct and mentor youth performers with a focus on storytelling, character work, and ensemble cohesion.

  • Collaborate closely with choreographers, music directors, designers, and technical staff.

  • Participate in schedule creation, production planning, and daily rehearsal coordination.

Qualifications

Freelance Faculty Positions

The Performing Arts Academy is currently hiring engaging and passionate teaching artists for Spring and Summer 2025! You don't want to miss the opportunity to be part of this growing and dynamic team of artists!

We are seeking experienced theatrical teaching artists for classes and musical theatre productions.

For spring, we are specifically looking for those that have experience and a passion for working with early elementary in dance, voice and acting. We have available classes on Mondays through Thursdays at 3:30, 4:30 and 5:30 pm. All classes at our new facility in Highlands Ranch.

For summer we are contracting artistic, design and tech teams to join us as we mount 15 full productions and host 34 week-long ½ day camps for students aged 3 - 18 over the course of 8 weeks.

Work dates/times and duration vary by program.

Local hires only; no housing or transportation available from PAA.

Student ages vary by program from ages 3 - grade 12, and some 18 yrs+ adult classes.

Background checks are performed on all hired faculty.
