Acting at PAA

The craft of acting is a life long study. For those who have a passion for performance it is the key to unlocking greatness. The greatest hope of an actor is to become so transformed into a character that in the performance, only the character is seen. Even family and friends watching the performance should be fooled into believing that the person on the stage isn’t their friend or brother, but instead a stranger telling a story.
No great performers have ever arrived at greatness. They are always seeking it. Every new character presents new challenges and new opportunities for growth and change. As we step into the world of the character we play, we can grow in our empathy for others and our understanding of this world. We can learn new things about the community around us and ourselves.
None of these things come easy, however. Each and every performance requires effort and careful study. The small detail and nuance of nonverbal communication must be thoroughly attended to. We actors must work hard, listening and watching as we grow our characters.
The diligence of effort that acting requires is a skill. Through game play, small scenes, and group study, any aspiring performer can learn the skills required to perform at the next level. I love watching a student as they learn the craft of acting. No matter the level, there is always discovery and joy in the journey. Acting classes are a staple of growth for any and every performer.
